Looking after an individual who is sick or disabled is a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week responsibility, which can greatly cause the caregiver stress. Extended stress can result in health problems such as ulcers, high blood pressure, difficulty sleeping, weight loss, weight gain and breathing difficulties. Additionally, the toll it can take on a person’s mental health can lead to feelings of guilt, hopelessness, and depression. A break away from the routine and responsibilities of caring for others allows the caregiver to refresh and rejuvenate.
